Semantic Web
How equipped is classical text based searches to human thought? We humans are adept at finding exact information we want by entering phrases and verifying that information by our abstract reasoning. We know what we are looking for by our own reasoning.
Searches on the Internet are limited in this aspect. More often than not searches return a high percentage of irrelevant content and always require the constant mediation of human beings. The differentiation is two fold, one the Web does not contain knowledge. It contains a lot of data and information that gets transported very fast. The second is there is extreme differentiation between our own thought processes and the searches on the Internet.
Supposing we search for information about a particular movie, there are innumerable unwanted list of websites that are returned by these searches. But we select something that is attractive to our senses, and it is almost impossible to capture such reasoning to a search engine such as Google. So what the Internet achieves is Time Minimization.
The Internet has certainly shortened time of performing several activities, but it has not redefined human knowledge to a substantial extent. There are facts that remain facts and however rigorous it may be these may be need to be classified as the Knowledge sub Web.
The development of the Semantic Web has several challenges, firstly classification of knowledge, secondly is development of search mechanisms that accurately capture our natural reasoning. The second is far more complex, but in the future say by 2050 we may see the Internet highly responsive to User and more responsive to us human beings.
